Rock the Earth: Recycled Cell Phone Style

It happens to everyone. Whether its an upgrade or just spring cleaning, old cell phones inevitably pose the question: “What do I do with this?”

Electronics recycling is becoming a bigger focus in the “going green” sphere, and Rock the Earth is running a new campaign focusing on handheld devices. If put into the landfill, the toxic substances from phones can leak into the water supply. In the U.S. alone there are over one billion old, unused phones, but only about 10% get recycled.

Some of the recycled cell phones are re-programmed and donated to women’s shelters, others are disposed of in an environmentally sound way.

Rock the Earth is a national environmental advocacy group comprised of rock stars and their fans. Some of their supporting artists include Alanis Morissette, Barenaked Ladies, Bon Jovi, Dave Matthews Band, Incubus, Jack Johnson and Tom Petty.
