Mapping Change

The premise of my research project started when I read a study by PEW Charitable Trusts called “The Clean Energy Economy: Repowering Jobs, Businesses and Investments Across America.” This groundbreaking analysis sheds light on the green economy and its part in our nation’s economic recovery. PEW counted actual jobs, companies and investments in every state aimed at “developing clean, renewable sources of energy, increasing energy efficiency, reducing greenhouse gases emissions that cause global warming and conserving water and other natural resources.”

The study revealed that clean energy jobs and businesses grew at a faster rate over the 10 years between 1998 and 2007.

I took some of the data published in this report and made an interactive Flash map that shows a state-by-state analysis detailing the number of green jobs and businesses, as well as the rate of change between 1998 and 2007 for both all jobs and green jobs. The map also identifies state policies and the green status of each state. Take a look around… you might be surprised what you find. To access the map, just click the map image to the right.
